For the Narrows Dam, 1917 was a very big year. It was completed in June, began generating power in mid-July and by August, it easily held back the full, approximately 5,355-acre, capacity of a new lake. Tallassee Power Company sold its first power from it in November the same year and the rich history of the tallest overflow dam in the world upon completion had begun. Now you can see it up close, in person, inside and out from 10 a.m.-2 a.m. Sat. Oct. 26. Call Vanessa Mullinix at (704) 985-2151 for tour information.
